Inferring
What is it?
Inferring is the fourth type of reading power. Inferring is when you are reading between
the lines, which means to find the real meaning behind a text. People often mistake predicting and inferring as the same thing, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME! Predicting is making an educated guess about what will happen in the future. Inferring is interpreting what has happened or what is happening.
Example:
When Jasmine sees her best friend Sienna with her chocolate brown hair billowing in the wind, her wide hazel eyes frantic trying to find her cell phone in her massive purse, she couldn't help but laugh. She had to run but planned on calling Sienna later that day. Jasmine did not want to leave but she had to get to work no matter what might happen once she got there.
Inference:
I infer that something happened at work and now Jasmine wants to avoid having to face it. I infer this because she did not want to leave and that she had to go no matter what would happen, even if the outcome was terrible.
